Private pool villas, floating breakfast, sunset dinners

Weddings

Get married where you would rather be.

Bali runs weddings for a living, which means the venues, the celebrants and the paperwork are all already solved. The only real decision is whether the ceremony needs to be legal.

  • Beach · Clifftop · Jungle
  • Villas from USD 3,330 per couple
  • Legal or symbolic

The first decision

Legal, or symbolic.

Everything else follows from this one. A legal marriage is a paperwork exercise in two countries; a symbolic ceremony is not.

Legal marriage

Paperwork
Documents from Indonesia and from your home country, including an affidavit of no impediment.
Recognised
Legally recognised, subject to both countries accepting it.
Lead time
Start months ahead. Document turnaround is the slowest part.
Who to hire
A local planner who has done the paperwork before.

Symbolic ceremony

Paperwork
None required.
Recognised
Not a legal marriage. It carries whatever meaning you give it.
Lead time
As long as the venue needs, which is usually weeks.
Who to hire
A celebrant and a venue. The rest is styling.

Many couples marry legally at home and hold the ceremony here. It is the most common version of a Bali wedding and it removes the paperwork entirely.

Where

Three settings, three weddings.

The venue decides the photographs, the guest logistics and about half the budget.

Sunset over the sea off the south west coast of Bali Beach

Seminyak

Sophisticated beachfront resorts and private pool villas from USD 3,330 per couple. Easiest for guests who want somewhere to go afterwards.

Tegalalang rice terraces near Ubud, Bali Jungle

Ubud

Secluded jungle retreats above the river valleys. Quieter, greener, and a real drive from the airport.

Limestone cliffs and open ocean at Uluwatu, Bali Clifftop

Uluwatu

Ceremonies on the cliff edge with the ocean behind you. The most dramatic option and the most weather dependent.

What it takes

What you actually have to organise.

A destination wedding is four decisions and one piece of admin. Take them in this order and the rest follows.

  1. 1 Venue, then ceremony type Pick where first. Whether the ceremony is legal or symbolic changes the paperwork but rarely the venue.
  2. 2 A planner who has done it here Indonesian marriage regulations are not something to learn from a forum. A local planner handles the documents and the vendors.
  3. 3 The season April to October is dry and suits an outdoor ceremony. November to March is the monsoon, and an outdoor plan needs a real wet-weather option.
  4. 4 Where everyone sleeps Private pool villas in Seminyak and Ubud come inside packages from USD 3,330 per couple. Le Cielo Romantic Villas is one of the couples-only addresses.
